PhD Candidate
Isiodu Kosieme Georges hails from Umunjam Mbieri, Imo State, Nigeria. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Cultural Heritage Protection, an inter-university program by the University of Coruna, the University of Vigo, and the University of Santiago De Compostela, Galicia, Spain.
Kosieme has a background in Art History (B.A. Ed. and M.A.) and has taught Art History in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, since January 4, 2010. He is currently on study leave because of his PhD program in Spain.
Kosieme's profound interest in Nigerian-themed art histories, movements, and artworks, particularly those rich in meaning, symbolism, and worldview, points to a deep engagement with a multifaceted artistic legacy. Nigerian art transcends mere aesthetics; it is intrinsically woven into the social, spiritual, political, and historical fabric of its diverse ethnic groups.
To truly comprehend this art, one must delve into its historical evolution, the philosophical foundations of its symbolism, and the worldviews that inform its creation and reception. His pursuit of a Ph.D. in cultural heritage protection, with a focus on the recovery of Igbo art culture, highlights the impact of Eurocentrism and the Igbo people's adaptability on their artistic heritage. His research, "Eurocentrism and the Igbo Nationality's Quest for Self-Identity: Evidence from Nigeria," underscores the critical need to understand the interplay between external influences and indigenous cultural preservation.
